Hey everybody out there in Disc Golf Land!!! I'm Marty P with Bangarang Discs.
Journey
As of January, of this year, I had been working in the corporate world in various sectors in some capacity for 43 years. Unfortunately, my plans to retire in 5 years were abruptly interrupted with a layoff in December.
I was faced with a choice, work for another corporation for the next 5 years and then retire or take a chance on myself and my last opportunity to fulfill a dream. The choice was relatively easy due to my increasing dissatisfaction with the corporate world. Psychologically, I’d be better off starting my own business than returning to the heavy political, ego-centric, and deceptive environment of the corporate world.
Am I scared? Yes. Will I succeed? I don’t know. Will it be profitable? I don’t know. But I know that I work best under pressure and have an unwavering determination to fulfill my objectives, in this case, my dream.
I started playing disc golf at 54 when, in June of 2020, a couple of family friends invited my agoraphobic butt out to play a round with them. I had no idea what disc golf was nor what was in store for me. All I knew was that I had always wanted to play ball golf but it was too expensive and I did not have the aptitude for it. So I was like ‘what the hell’ let’s see what this is all about.
What an experience! A beautiful park to enjoy while tossing a disc toward a basket… and then the disc hit the chains. I was hooked. My mind, body, and spirit were satiated that day with hardly any effort. I didn’t care about the score. Just being outside in fellowship with my friends, hiking through the park, with the intermittent "chang" of the chains around me meant I wasn’t the only one enjoying that day.
Since then, I’ve bought a lot of discs and lost a lot of discs. I’ve broken 3 ribs, fractured my scapula, hyper-extended my elbow, and sprained my ankle.
Disc golf has provided me with such profound experiences that I want to share it with everyone I know, and to grow the sport in my local community.
And so, on February 16th, the virtual doors of Bangarang Discs opened for the first time.
Strategy
There’s so much competition with huge inventories that are already established in the marketplace. I won’t be able to compete with that, at first. So, if I am willing to take a chance on me, I’m also willing to take a chance on a single manufacturer.
MVP, Axiom, and Streamline discs are made for the 21st-century disc golfer. The feel, the flight, and the flash of their technology are evident in the quality of their product. The plastic, molds, and designs are arguably the best in the industry. Most importantly, their dedication to innovation through technology is second to none. With the signing of James Conrad, Simon Lizotte, and Eagle McMahon to their brand's roster, I believe 2024 is the year the MVP Network catches fire.
Supporting the MVP Network allows for an opportunity to support the growing "Gyronaut" family with a deep inventory at lower prices than a majority of our competitors.
Goals
The goal is to have every mold, every plastic, and every weight of every disc in MVP’s inventory by the end of the year. So, when you think MVP, Axiom, and Streamline, think Bangarang Discs!
Stay tuned for more on our journey.
